Yes they're safe to keep together. They're the same species. The blue dumpy's are just a color variety of that species.

Thats what I thought too. Its just like the firebelly toads. Only thing is firebelly toads there are two different types, oriental(green) and european(brown). Or like albino clawed frogs with the normal colored ones. I think its safe.

The only time that I've heard that you don't want to mix the two is in the case of serious breeders given that they are different "varieties" and the offspring would be a "mutt" of sorts.

Yes but while it is possible, it's unlikely that a pair of these frogs would breed in a normal terrarium setting. Also keep the size factor in mind. If they're is a large difference in the size of the frogs, one could become a meal to the other and it wouldn't be safe. LOL I know it may be unlikely but I try to keep all possibilities in mind.

Yes, that's a good suggestion from Kevin. I recently brought home a new little guy after my Kibbits passed away and left his mate (Igby) alone. The advice I've received is to wait until the new guy is more than half the size of the larger frog to avoid any unfortunate meal tempting. That is, of course, after the normal 30 day quarantine period.

Luckily, given his age and how fast he is growing, Quibble (the new frog) will probably only have to wait the minimum 30 days before being introduced to his permanent tank with Igby.

Keep in mind that more than likely the brown fire-bellies you see in the store are Bombina orientalis, as are the bright green ones. The European fire-belly, Bombina bombina is a totally different species and rarely seen for sale in the US. The European is a lot less red on the underside than the Asian or oriental.

Wow. So I confused the brown ones for europeans. I just remember seeing somewhere that the brown ones are europeans and green ones orientals. Though I think the europeans are brown just with a darker underside. Right?
