Hey All,
I'd appreciate if you could ease my concerns a bit. Tonight while misting my terrarium I heard something making noise that sounded kind of like a dog's chew toy. I nearly jumped out of my skin because so far my white's has not made a peep. My question before I scour my room for another hidden critter is what do young white's sound like? All the videos on youtube of white's call show much bigger older frogs so I'm not sure if this is a good basis to judge from. Thanks for any help you all can provide.
Anybody? Could it just have been annoyed of the water spritzing?
I know with Kibbits, when he first started to try out his voice, sounded more like a chirp, like a little squeaks. As he got older, it was like his voice went through the same type of vocal change as pubescent boys. It gradually got deeper and more booming until it was a full on call like you hear on the youtube videos, and boy was he excited to share it. He'd challenge anything to a voice contest: the vacuum, the TV, music, even me when I tried to mimic my best "croak."
I've also heard my female make a little chirp when she was annoyed at Kibbits sitting on top of her head :P
With my experience, though, I'd guess this is a little boy just starting to test out his voice. My guess is that you were spritzing down the tank at night, and this is usually when White's call. Give it a month or so, and see what happens : ) You'll know soon enough!
Thanks thats what I was hoping to hear.
No problem! When Kibbits first started to "chirp" (as it was then), I was completely baffled and thought I was hearing things :P It wasn't until I actually saw him do it that I knew for sure those little peeps were coming from him. Good luck!
