    Default Which Whites call?

So, our whites which I thought was sick with red leg or something was out and about tonight. And I heard it call a few times. Searches online said only males call, and a magazine says females do too sometimes. Ours called twice about 30mins appart for about ten seconds or so.

Only males croak. Females can make a release call but it sounds very different. If you go on youtube and type in "whites tree frog croaking" you can hear what it sounds like. Also if you play the sound clip at night beside your frog cage it is likely your frog will respond by croaking!

    Good question,
I've been trying to get my greens & grays to call for days now... I've tried the youtube video "calling" "croaking"
I've tried sitting in my living room with nothing on except a upstairs light, were it just bearly illuminates the room.
For almost 39 minutes.. but still nothing... =(

Congratulations on your boy! We are crossing our fingers that our new little frog is male after losing our little Kibbits (also male). Kibbits would respond to us when we tried to replicate his call back! You should try it!

Kibbits also challenged any vacuum in the room for male supremacy. ; ) haha

At night, they are awake and active and so (at least in my experience) more likely to call. Kibbits got into the habit of calling when he knew it was around "dinner" time. I don't know the secret though to getting them to croak back. : ) If I started croaking, Kibbits would respond and it would be a competition - haha. BUT, he would never respond to my fiance trying to do the same thing.

Best of luck and I can't wait to hear if he starts responding to you : )

Well, lucy..our male whites is turning out to be a lot more interesting than I ever thought. "She" is actually quite large. I think she was at petsmart for quite a while.

Sweet to know that you rescued little "Lucy" from the pet store, and he(?) is now adjusting to the surroundings :P I think I actually uploaded an MP3 of our Kibbits' croaking to the forum. You should see if he'll respond to that ; )

We just fed our new little guy/girl, Quibble, for the first time. Both of our frogs were in separate "feeding tanks" since he will be in quarantine for the next month. He was very intrigued by Igby (our 1-year female WTF) and kept going after crickets in the other tank, after seeing them through the glass instead of the ones in his own :P

    Yay!
I heard my gtf call out today, well more like yell @ me cause I was bugging him, lol
I was cleaning up there enclosure & I didn't realize that he was sitting on a leaf that I was pressing my arm against
He was pinned against the glas and my arm. He didn't get hurt, he just yelled and jumped away,
I still havnt gotten them with the vacum yet, =)

Oh my! That doesn't sound like a happy call! :P

Just don't forget, if your GTFs are not males, they will not croak. You might just have little girls on your hand! Sometimes the girls will call, but in a different way that sound more like high chirps to me - I've only heard Igby do it one time in a year, and it was to express the distress of having Kibbits sit on her face :P Needless to say, after hearing a few chirps, he went skittering away to a different branch.

    Anyway, best of luck!

Maybe, but according to the JC, he said that the dark parts & a vocal sac are a sign of male, and it has a pretty dark line accross the underside of its neck, so.... idk,

Well, he is definitely right! Kibbits had a dark vocal sac underneath. So, if your frogs have that, that's a pretty good indication. He may not be quite ready yet : )

I remember that when Kibbits first started out, it sounded like little chirps, and then progressed into an actual call, and as he got older (just like teenage boys!), his voice got lower!

I can't wait to hear your frogs little voice! You should definitely record it and share once he does!

Yeas, I have full intention on doing so... I can't wait,
& I think your right about the sexual maturity, I don't think there old enough to start...
Knowing my luck they will start and never stop, OMG!
    But I have a M/F combo of gtf's
& a Male grey tf, in there with them.. they are so friendly,
Even the male grey tf waits for the female to eat b4 he hops to eat, the 2 males will watch her jump around...
    lol....Men..... lol

Seems to be ok. Its funny when I picked him up he was very brown. I never really took interest in a wtf because I thought they were kind of boring. (Probably what most people think of them at petsmart when they're sleeping against the glass durring the day). Anyways my girlfriend read an article and said she wanted one, so I picked lucy up. The employee told me they get them and they never turn back green. This was after she asked if I was going to move lucy in with our bearded dragon. Ofcourse, by the time we got home she was green lol. She still doesn't seem too active. Or eating like a maniac.
