Hi guys!
I bought a small green pacman frog today at a reptile expo, and I don't know anything about them. The guy that I bought it from said that I can just use wet paper towels for bedding (although I put a bit of moss in there), feed them once a week, and I don't need a light on the cage that room temp. is fine. Is this true? Also, if anyone has any other advice or tips about taking care of pacmans, that would be greatly appreciated![]()
No , it is not true lol
Substrate: earth
Temp.: 24º to 27º C
Hum.: 70 % to 90%
Feed: 3 , 4 times a week , whit a vitamin supplement
Those 4 things are the basic to keep a ceratophrys![]()
Also, make sure he is defecating.
If you need to, put him in a container with shallow water and wait for him to defecate.
Okay, I have him in a rather large plastic cage with coconut fibers as the substrate, and I put a bit of moss in there for him to hide in, which is what he is doing now. I also put a couple of powered crickets for him to eat. Oh, and I currently have a 40W bulb on him. Is this okay? I can post pics if necessary.
Grats on the pickup.
What kind of substrate was it kept in before you bought it? Reason I'm asking is the baby green pacman I bought two weeks ago finally pooped for the first today. I'm not sure if there's still anymore woods in it's stomach but some sure came out today.
Here's picture of it with wood substrates it came with.
Having it on paper towel will make it easier to monitor if it's eating or defecating.
.
That looks exactly like mine! Mine came on the paper towels, but I have him on the coconut substrate, but I don't think that he likes it very muchWhat else can I use?
Only use compressed coconut fiber. Moss and other substrates can be swallowed and not digested and kill the frog. Temps should remain about 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit, maintained by using a heat pad. Humidity should be close to 80%. Most likely your frog is a juvenile, so you should feed him every 1-2 days. A high protein diet like crickets and earthworms are best. Rarely feed rodents. Hope this helps, if you have anymore questions, just ask!
