    Smile Dusting of Crickets

I should have asked this question when I first joined. Do you dust your crickets heavily or lightly? I would say FROG is about 3 to 3 1/4 inches from snout to "tail". How many dusted crickets should I feed "him" per day? I give him ReptoCol twice a week and Reptivite once a week via dusting of the crickets. Again thanks to everyone who has answered my many questions.

Hi AKFROG, Dusted crickets should only be fed every few days because calcium overdose can possibly happen. When dusting your crickets make sure that you have a fair amount of the supplements on the prey item but don't end up with a pure white cricket, An what type of frog? If he's a pacman, feed him as many crickets as he can take in 5 minutes but monitor the feeding as well. Hope this helps

They should be lightly dusted, not ghost crickets. I sometimes overdust my prey, then I will feed the overdusted ones and add in some undusted ones. I know howmuch each of my frogs will eat (more or less), so it's an easy system for when it happends.
I have once noticed when I was overdusting that one of my frogs pooped blueish, this was because of the white calcium powder mixed with reptisafe, so make sure your frogs poop doesn't have a whiteish coat.

Hi Dave, i don't mean to say its wrong. i mean to say that
over supplementation can be a problem sometimes.

You'l have to figure out the amount of supplementation to use yourself. However many crickets you put in the bag, the powder will need to be adjusted to it. You'l get the hang of it fast, it's really not hard. Just make sure they have a nice coat of the supplement, but don't look like the fell into the jar.

Dave you're doing it right. Horned Frogs need insane amounts of calcium and shaking them in a bag doesn't overcoat them.
