    Default Bufo melanostictus

    Hello everybody

So, I just bought a Bufo melanostictus.. I was going to buy 2 of them, but then I feel in love with a pyxie... so I bought one of each.

I had to pick between a medium one with lots of red and a huge one super fat... I pick the smaller one with an amazing red colouration.

He's (I believe he's a male) feeding on zoophobas just fine! The only reason he's not fatter is because the huge "room mate" used to steal him the majority of his food.

Pictures coming in a few hours

I think you made the right choice! I also picked the smaller one because of its awesome coloration. I think my Bufo is a male. Generally in the toad world, males are smaller and more colorful than females.

I will be posing pictures on mine very soon.

    Thanks!

Well, here you have the coolest "little" red guy on earth

    On his favourite hide:

(sorry about the misted glass ont his one)

    His enclosure:

And what made me fell in love with him:

I'm probably going to move him to a plastic box until I buy him a partner, because I'm needing this aquarium and with only one bufo it seems a little empty

    Enjoy

ps: He's eating zoophobas like if there was no tomorow

Amazing colouring on him-I can definitely see why you picked him! Congrats again on getting him and I hope we can continue to see lots more pictures of him and all his friends.

Would the setup you have for your guy be a good one to mimic for my new toadlet? Mine is about the size of my little fingernail, but I expect her or she to grow pretty fast.

    Thank you both!

I think you should start with something simpler (and really smaller) because that way you can control the feeding a lot better, and that's important on such a small frog.

I would recommend a small box with paper on the ground and a few hiding places... a tiny container with water is important too (a bottle cap will do the job).

    Good luck!

After 5 days, my toad is a little fatter, and it's colors are better too!

Thanks Kurt. In my opinion it's one of the most beautiful Bufo. It would be an excellent add to your "collection"

As my old boss used to say whenever I wanted to bring in some new animals inyo the MoS collection, "there's no room at the inn".
