Default How I build moss platforms

    Hello,

I think this may be useful to someone trying to do something like this.

For the structure I used cocktail sticks:

Some of them intact and some others broken:

I studied the shape I would give to the platform:

And I glued them with aquarium silicone:

I glued one side, I left it drying, and then glued the other to make a strong structure:

This was the final effect: (the pointed tips were used to stare the structure in the background)

I used sphagnum and java mosses:

And this was the final effect:

In order to simulate the effect of having the platform attached to the background I puted it between a book and the table (using the pointed tips)

And I finally stick it into the background:

Btw, this was the tank, it was my first tank to dendrobates, but I never really bought them

I think most tree frogs would be happy with that tank. Looks good.

Unfortunately I had to dismantle this set up more or less one year ago. It's now completely different.

Cool idea! I tried something similar with popsicle sticks but my setup did not look as good as yours. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry what I meant was how is it supported? I mean it looks like its flimsy for larger species. So is this just for smaller species? Or is it resting on a rock or log or something so it can hold some weight?

Oh! The only thing supporting the platform is the pointy part of the toothsticks, s, which are stuck in the backgrounf, so larger species would probably break the structure.

Yeah and itd be limited on how many can be on it at the same time. Id say only small treefrogs the size of like at most 3inches? Could safely be on that without colapsing. right?

Exactly. I would say it is safe to dendrobates, and basically hylas and similar frogs.
For example, it wouldn't do for big Litorias, but it would do for the smaller ones.

I think even small toads may use this. Believe it or not some toads actually may climb a bit. Not something like a tree. But you know. Ledges and such they would do.
