Hi guys, two days ago I dumped roughly 15 crickets (5 extra, courtesy of the reptile store owner) into the tank, and so far roughly 7 has died off. So my questions are: 1) can it be due to heat? Because the weather in North Cal suddenly went so hot that both the pacman tank and my gold fish tank's temperature are high. 2) I did not leave them any food nor water, could they starve to death because of this?
Many thanks
crickets die pretty fast if you dont take care of them when i buy mine to feed my frog i get about 24 of them and they live for a week because i give them shelter and food they get their water from the foods i give them. when i first get crickets to feed my pacman i feed the crickets first just to make sure there good and plump. i feed them fish food mixed with lettuce. i use a little cage thats like for hermit crabs (its small) i put toilet paper rolls that are used up in it. i wouldnt leave crickets in the cage for more then a day it can stress the frog
I leave them over night, they dun seem to bother my pacman, but the crickets are dying w/o any specific cause... jus dunno why... could be the heat...
I vote they die out of fear of pac a tron.

They might not seem to bother your pacman, but if he's not hungry and crickets are crawling all over him then it could be stressing him out.
Also, crickets can bite. Which will definitely lead to stress, and can also lead to sores and infections.
About the dead crickets. They will die without food or water. Get a small critter keeper or something, and keep the extra crickets in there with a half a potato or some carrot slices. Then just use them as you need them.
Crickets crawling on and sometime biting your frog will stress it out.
I had recently bought some crickets almost a week ago, more than needed and I change their tub and put in new carrots and fish food and I still find dead ones, I won't be buying that many again...but that was when I was overfeeding...so I thought I needed more...lol
approximately how many should I feed my frog / day?
your typical feeder cricket has a lifespan of 6-8 weeks, i always buy large crickets and those are usually already at the end of there lifespan,i usually lose a few here and there, but i usually only buy 10, and usually receive atleast 20, i dont like keeping more than 3 crickets in an enclosure at a time with small frogs, and i now have two frogs, anymore than three usually pester my frog, but if my frog hasnt had a meal in a few days i throw in more as 3 is only a snack, i dont like keeping crickets around as i think they are annoying, but when i do i keep em in a 5 gallon bucket in my closet and feed them left over fruits and vegetable, and throw in a worm here and there
I think I'm just gonna keep mine in the cricket keeper.
