    Default Hi from Germany

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself and my frogs.

I am 32 years old and am active in herpetoculture since my early childhood days. I have a whole room converted for the hobby (including a cricket task force of two free roaming tokays) and am especially interested in Frogs and snakes.

    My current population consists of:
    0.0.2 Ceratophrys cranwelli
    0.0.1 Lepidobatrachus laevis
    0.0.1 Pyxiecephalus adspersus
    2.2 Bufo mauretanicus
    1.1 Litoria caerulea
    1.1 Litoria aurea
    3.1 Hyla chinensis
    3.4 Bombina orientalis
    1.1 Bombina variegata (Amelanistic)
    2.4 Ambystoma mexicanum
    0.0.4 Ambystoma tigrinum
    1.6 Eublepharis macularius (diff. morphs)
    1.0 Rhacodactylus ciliatus
    1.1 Gekko gecko
    1.1 Lamprophis lineatus (het hypo)
    1.2 Pantherophis guttatus (diff morphs)
    1.2 Natrix maura
    0.0.3 Thamnophis marcianus ( amel)
    0.0.3 Thamnophis elegans vagrans

Wow! What a collection you have there!

I have no idea what any of them are without looking them up, I think I recognise the name for Pixie frogs, Fire-bellied toads and a type of tree frog (Hyla chinensis) I'm slowly picking up the Latin names!

I also notice you have axolotls and tiger salamanders. I keep axolotls too.

So to keep me busy for the next half hour or so I shall hunt down the species you have listed on the internet!

    Welcome to the forum.

0.0.4 Ambystoma talpoideum, Mole Salamander (probably not going to keep)

Nice collections. You americans are so lucky to have such a diverse
indigenus herpetofauna in the wild. Here in Germany we only have about 14 frogs or toads, 6 newts/salamanders, 4 lizards, 1 turtle and 5 snakes, nearly all of them extremly rare and all of them protected. I hope to visit Florida this year or next. Good friends of mine bought a house there...

Wow Kurt! That is not a collection that is a zoo!

Do you charge entry fees at your front door?

Thanks for the translation on all Christians animals, I actually spent the time googling every one so that I could see what they were. But to do that for all yours, it'd take me forever! Could you be a real sweetie and dumb it down for me into how many frog species, salamander species, etc you have?

Yes, I'm just completely, utterly nosey!

I ended up looking them all up to find out what they were! But I was good and didn't change my answers!

The last one I thought was a dart frog from the dendro part of the name. I guess it must mean poison or dangerous (something like that) in Latin.

I'm going to try to look out for the scientific names more and see what I can pick up.
Over on Caudata.org I'm getting to know some of the newt and salamander names, not completely, but can recognise the names when I see them!

I actually took latin as a subject at school, but that was FAR too long ago to remember any of it! I don't think it would have any bearing on species names anyway!
