    This is very good John!
As you stated at the beginning, I use this exact setup in all of my setups from darts to treefrogs. The only difference is species specific climate control measures such as ventilation fans, heaters, misters, water depth, and landscaping. I personally like the water under the substrate to support microfauna and plant growth, especially important for springtails.
    Nice job on this!

This is great help for me. I started with my tree frogs not long ago and this gave me some ideas on how to change my setup and better suit it for my White's.
The step by step instructional will be useful to me to get the proper humidity as well as ambiance I'm looking for. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

any suggestions on how you would incorporate a waterfall type feature to what you have described...which is excellent, by the way... I especially liked the idea of wrapping the fiberglass mesh under the front part of the substrate... Wonder whether anyone has tried running a piece of PVC under the whole thing with the sub substrate around it to be able to suck out the excess water from time to time...Of course there would have to be an elbow to a straight piece..it would be nestled in the substrate at the very bottom...think it would work????

Judy, thanks for your comments. I think you should start a new thread of your own to discuss the water feature concept. Regarding the pipe, you could do it the way you suggest.

You're fine, I just think that the water fall discussion could grow into a big discussion that deserves its own "thread".

use a thermostatically controlled, water-safe heating cable in the substrate Do you have any specific ideas about how this would be safe to use in a moist environment??? Any brand names?? I have a lot of concerns about this heat issue since our very old log house is quite cold in the winter but am willing to invest in SAFE ways to heat my tanks... And since my barn burned to the ground several years ago using an "in stocktank" water heater...am sorta leary of some of them...and I've heard that the heaters can crack the glass...help...
