I wouldn't drink the water, but provided you don't let it rise to the substrate's level, it'll be perfectly fine. No other equipment necessary.

Earthworms live in the earth, key word. None of what I described would be suitable for traditional earthworms. Most earthworm species won't last long in that terrarium unless they're of tropical origin.
