Thread: Question regarding lighting

    Default Question regarding lighting

Hi, I'm a first time toad owner and because the breed (bufo alvarius) is nocturnal I'm not sure when the best time to give them the uv light they need. As they are nocturnal I have been leaving it on overnight, however I'm concerned that this could affect their mental wellbeing by changing their circadian rhythm as essentially they wont be getting any darkness. I have the heat mat and a ceramic baking bulb doubled up on a stat which I keep at 73°f during day and 70 at night. Using a mixture of potting soil and coconut chunks for drainage with a top layer of frog moss in dry and dry leaves in wet. Any tips regarding the keeping and wellbeing of this species or toads in general would be greatly appreciated!

Nocturnal toads don't require a UV light just make sure the temperature is 22
