Today while my hubby and I were getting ready to bbq, we noticed a little green tree frog with what appears to be a broken leg. He also looks kind of malnourished. I took him inside and put him in an old aquarium and added some foliage and branches as well as a small bowl of delchlorinated water, some green moss from the pet store, and a little wooden hide house I used to have for a mouse. I bought some crickets and fruit flies and tried to feed him, but he wouldn't eat. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with his broken leg? Here's a picture of the little fella.![]()
Aw poor thing. Do you still have him? He’s probably pretty stressed out. Does he have water he can get in and out of? I’d try to mist him with dechlorinated water somewhat often so he stays wet. Have you seen him move? Is he mobile?
I have damp moss all in the aquarium and he has a shallow bowl of water in there. I mist 1 to 4 times a day to keep the humidity up. He has been moving the past few days. But the leg just kind of hangs there. He can still jump if he wants too. I've gotten him to eat a cricket and some fruit flies over the past couple days.
I don't see your photo. Can you post it again?
Thanks I just wanted to look for a possible deformity but it looks like a perfectly developed leg. Could you detect an actual break and do you have an update?
I don't know that it was actually broken. I just know that he couldn't use it at all when I first picked him up. He actually has full mobility in the leg again and I have plans to release him soon.this was yesterday after I fed him. I feed him in a separate container so I could be sure he was eating his food. After he ate he jumped on top of it and could use the leg.
Oh that's good to know. You kept him safe when he was completely vulnerable. Good work.
