Today I have come to the horrific realization that ants have begun invading my mealworm box, and I'm not sure what to do. They are small, greyish ants so definitely not fire ants. I'm not even sure if the ants are trying to eat the worms because there's still a ton of worms left. It seems to me they just want to eat the oatmeal bedding and the vegetables. However the worms definitely seem stressed out as I can't find any pupa now and they were all hiding from the ants when I looked in the box.
Is there any simple way to get rid of the ants without harming the worms? I was hoping that if I sort the colony into worm cups with lids, the ants will die off if they can't climb out and don't have a queen. They would still have oatmeal, since the worms would be in the cups too. However I'm worried the ants will chow down on the worms before they die. I really don't know much about ant behavior, so any help is appreciated!
