Hello and need HELP

Need serious help with our southern leopard frog. It was given to my daughter for a christmas gift. "Spots" arrived in Feb 2010 and change into a frog around April. He was eating small crickets and looked "happy" up until late May early June. About the same time we had given him bigger crickets - since he grew - not too big for him. This is when all went downhill. He wont eat crickets, not even the smaller ones. We caught house flies and he seems to eat them. Flies are hard to come by. He does not look good, does not move as much and his color is pale. We dont have much space or money, so he is finally in a 5 gallon tank with water, terra moss and rocks. At several times we bought fruit flies, more crickets and now meal worms. He just wont eat. Please help

First let me say this. A 5 gallon is a little bit too small for a ranid(I maybe wrong), I think it should be atleast a 20long or a 30breeder.

He may have contracted something from the flies. Chances are its sick now. Because the fly probably had pesticides(chances are high that it did) even if you dont spray; your neighbors could spray on their own house and that fly may have gone from theirs to yours carrying the liquid on them which the frog ate and probably got sick. Frogs are sensitive to chemicals; not just in the food but in the air as well(any sort of spray is bad or perfume).
If there was no oils on the fly chances are it had some parasites/illness on it. Many flies carry parasites and illness. Try enticing it with some small earthworms or go out to the petstore and buy dubia roaches. The frog should like them. Even moths are a favorite.

Could you please post a picture of your frog and his set-up? We might be able to spot something in the pictures that could help us determine what the problem is.

I also have a Leopard frog and though he is slimmer than my other frogs, I am pretty sure he is eating as every day I have to clean out his water dish of poop. Have you noticed any feces in his water or around his enclosure?

There has been no feces in his water for a week. We are in Texas, so it can get very hot. Our a/c is set at78/80 and he is away from ceiling fans. I did put a little moth, and a fly in there a few days ago. The fly is gone, but his behaviour is the same. I am not sure if the moth was eaten, everything seems to disappear in the moss. There is NO vet (for frogs) where I live. I will post a picture when I figure out how to do it on this site.

Hi stseas and welcome to the forum.

What is the temperature like in your frogs enclosure? Frogs will stop eating if the temperature drops and go into a hibernation state. Otherwise your frog maybe sick. Do you have a vet that you can take your frog to? Can you take a photo of your frog and enclosure it may help us to help you.
