    Default Today is the day!

Today, my mother and my brothers are going into Lansing to visit a prestigious pet store, to bring back at least one new wtf. I want to get two- because my brothers want one of their own. And of course... I want my own, as well. I'm tremendously nervous, and I probably won't sleep tonight after what happened to Leo- but: I thought I would let you guys know! As soon as I come back with them/him/her, I will put up a couple photos of them/him/her. Wish me luck, guys!

I'm always hesitant about pet store frogs - I hope this one is healthy.

Alright guys, so we went to Lansing, and came back with two happy little WTFs. Both checked by a veterinarian for health. They were living together when we bought them, and so the specialist there told us that it was okay for them to live together. We put in some amazing new substrate, bought a lamp, and a heat/humidity monitor. Everything is tip top. We also got a new water treatment fluid, and we invested in some common nervousness. They are both alright, right now.

    I have a couple questions:
When we bought the frogs, the people told us that in Basking heat- the temperature for a whites should be about 85 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. And in regular heat, about late 70s, early 80's. But she DID NOT tell us where the humidity was supposed to be on a regular basis. Can you help me with this?
And also: Which do you believe to be the better heating tool to use in a Whites Tree Frog environment? A heat lamp, or a heating pad? I'd like an opinion on this because I have both and I am curious as to which is healthier for them. Thanks.

Alright, so- I got to pick which frog would be "Mine", and I chose the smaller of the two- praying once again for a male. He's small, and extremely shy. But, as I promised, I have an image of him! The other Whites Tree Frog is larger, and is lighter in the throat than he is. She is a lot more active and gets nervous very easily, I have yet to get a picture of her, but when I do- I will definitely post it for you guys to see! Anyway, here he is! I have yet to name him!

This picture was relatively easy to take, once he calmed down a little. He's more relaxed than the other one- and so he didn't mind when I uncurled my hand. However, he preferred to try and wiggle his way into my hand once I curled my fingers in. He likes to burrow into the substrate in his tank- and so I think he's going to be my little shy guy.

Like this! See, he wasn't very comfortable at first unless I curled my fingers over him like the little log that he likes to hide in. I promise I wasn't squeezing him! Haha, he crawled in there on his own!

This is just proving that no frog has the same personality. Leo was very out-going and ready to climb onto my hand when I fed him. This little guy- well, he likes his peace. And although he isn't a nervous wreck when it comes to some mild handling- he is very shy and would rather find a dark area to cuddle into, than stand around in the light for everyone to get a good gander at him. Leo, and this dude- are two different frogs with two different personalities indeed. But I think I will love him, all the same.

Want to help me pick a name?! I can't decide yet, because I've only had him for a couple hours but here are some names that I like: Anubis, Horus, Osiris, Sobek, Min, Thoth, Tully, Perseus, Mars, Finnigan, Hobbes, and Ace.

Alright guys, here's a small update- I thought I'd give you a couple pics of the set-up, and a sneak-peek at the two of them together. I have decided to name my new pal Anubis Finnigan mcFly, or just Finnigan, for short. Haha, anyway. Here are some pics. The first one is of my general set-up. There's a little water pool in the bottom right-hand corner, you can't see it so well, and a large vine that works at an incline, the tallest peak being closest to the heat lamp. There is also a large log for them to hide in on the left side of the tank, and a large bush in the center for them climb around and hide in. If you can see the pink leaves in the top right-hand corner of the first image, that was where they were hiding. Check it out.

In the second photo, it was very difficult for me to get a good image, so I circled the two of them for you to see. The circle labeled #1 is not mine, she belongs to my mom and two brothers- they have yet to name her. The circle labeled #2 is my little Finnigan, peeking out just around the other frogs bum. He managed to squish himself half-underneath the substrate like a blanket, and was nestled between the tree and glass panel. The larger (still un-named) frog, was resting on a leaf from the center bush. I hope to get better pics soon! But for now, they seem perfectly fine, and resting. I would have taken them out for a better look, but they were resting, and I doubt that they will be up and around until later in the evening.

Ha, ace is a favorite name of mine. It was the name I was going to call my old box turtle. Iam using it to call my fearless toad. He is an adorable little one though. He looks skinny to me though. o.O mine is a bit fat. Mine is more relaxed and chill. You can even "play" with it. Like it wont jump out of your hand but you can try getting it motivated to climb onto you. Idk why but mine likes to sit on the shoulders for some reason. His name is kermit. :U Hmm nice frog though. Very nice, very nice.

Yes, he does look a little thin in the photo- but when I looked him over, he looked rather healthy. The larger one is much fatter, and I wonder if perhaps she just bumped him out of the way whilst hunting for her crickets. He is adorable. I want to take a picture of him right now because I can just see him peeking out from beneath his substrate. I can't sleep, I want for them to be happy in their new environment and I am jittery about anything going wrong. Does anyone know the average humidity that you should keep your WTF's at? I could really use the information. Thanks for all of the positive comments guys, it truly makes me feel great- and I have the highest hopes for my little Finnigan.

Alright, so I had to show you the best picture I could get of Finnigan, right now. It's 2:46 am, and he's wide awake, peeking out of his substrate blanket. Such a shy little bugger- he ran right back into his burrowed area right after this pic.

So shy and so cute. After a couple of days he may venture out a bit more.

I certainly hope so. Haha, he's so cute. Oh- and I think that I have been newly assured of Finnigans gender. He woke me up this morning with some surprisingly loud croaks! I was startled at first because I had no idea what I was hearing. But then I recognized the sound and I became very excited- because I've wanted a boy for this exact reason! Well, I moved to get up and my bed started creaking- and he immediately stopped, so I couldn't make out who it was for sure: but I am crossing my fingers and hoping that it's Finn. I've looked up some stuff, and as far as sexing goes for White's it's obviously not easy- but I read that some traits can include a gray-ish throat (as opposed to a milky-white one), nuptial pads, sagging in the throat area, and smaller size. Finnigan is the smaller adult, he has a darker throat than the other- and it's just a little saggier. I can't wait for him to become comfortable enough to sing to me.

Nice. Very nice. For best results of croaking leave on a "fogger" when you go to sleep on a low setting. This will get him to croak like a piggy. Oh yes I noticed this but frogs actually croak on certain schedules. The wild frogs around my area start croaking from 7 or 8pm(depends on day and whether) and go on off till 11pm. Any of my male frogs will join them at this time of day as well. So just make a notice of the frogs/toads around you that go on off making noise. Write down the hour of the day/night when they start, how long it goes on off for, when it stops. Then do the same with your frog. For the most part what I ved delt with frogs tend to sing in a certain schedule depending on the environment as well and temperatures and humidity levels and so forth.
