I purchased an australian whites tree frog yesterday and it at first was very green. But a while after putting it in the tank it turned a dark purple. it moved to the ground and threw something up (a wood chip?). I was worried but decided to wait a day. Today it was green again and slept all day, then an hour ago I gave it three cricket for dinner. It’s now turned purple again and is sitting (asleep?) in the water dish. The tank is clean, humidity is fine as well as temp. Does anyone know what may be bugging it? Im very worried and will take it to the vet if need be.
I don’t see anything based on the picture that looks bad per se. It’s normal for them to change colors. Can you describe the setup in detail?
She’s quite small and still young so shes currently housed in a 12x12x18 exoterra. She has a grapevine (brand new but cleaned), fake plant (fabric) and a stone water dish. Substrate is paper towels dampened with spring water. I clean up after her when needed. Humidity ranges from 70’s to 80’s and temp ranges from high 70’s to low 80’s.
Ok, when you mentioned the wood chip in your post I was curious if it was part of the substrate. If it’s feeding normally I wouldn’t fret. Try checking on it after dark. You may notice it being more active then and get a better idea of its general appearance. I’ve had this species on and off for 20 years and various individual changed color all the time. I’d ditch the fabric plants though as some contain dyes that can be toxic.
