Default Help please! injured pet tree frog

Hi. I have a terrarium with three tree frogs. I woke up to get a glass of water and found one on the floor! I did not realize it had gotten out while I was working in the tank today, and my cat evidently injured it. The frog is moving about freely but has scratches and its intestine is hanging out about an inch. I separated it from the others and placed in a secure enclosure. I washed the wound with betadine but am so worried! I don't want to stress or hurt it any worse, so was uncertain as to if I should attempt to push his organ back in... It will be several hours before my vet is open. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I hate to say this but odds are that’s a fatal injury. Place the frog in a deli cup and spray the cup with some distilled water until you can have it evaluated by your veterinarian. If your vet can treat an injury this severe successfully you’ll be very lucky indeed. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck

    Dear Dan,
Thank you for replying; I sincerely appreciate your kindness. Unfortunately your instincts were correct and my little friend did not survive the night. I feel terrible. He was so healthy and happy. I've had him since he was tiny and rescued him from a store where he was in a little tiny tank. I'm rambling. sorry. Just a sad day... Again, thank you for your time and concern.

No problem at all. I’m sorry you lost your frog but accidents happen. Don’t beat yourself up over it. We all make mistakes and it’s important that we learn from them is all. I would give the cat a stern talking to though.

Sorry to hear about your frog. Accidents do happen. Betadine is not the best for amphibians. Bactine is so much better. I have an possible solution and its a long shot. Place you frog in a shallow dish with clear Pedialyte just enough to cover the wound. It may cause the intestine to absorb back into the body. Good luck.
