Hello everyone! This is my first post to this forum so if it is not in the correct spot please let me know. Recently in PA it has got cold and I think my frogs are started to slow down on the eating. I didn't realize this in time and I have a lot of crickets leftover in my vivarium. They may even be starting to breed. Is there anyway to catch the crickets with some sort of trap from the tank? Without hurting or endangering the frogs that is. Thank you in advance.
Put in food for the crickets and let them be. The frogs will eat them eventually and as long as the crickets have something to eat, they will be fine.
You should probably catch the crickets with a net or something as they can start depleting the frogs water source, or worse, start biting and irritating the frogs. Don't let them breed or else you'll have an epidemic on your hands.
Hope this helps!
That's last resort in a bioactive setup. Crickets will eat decaying plant matter, fruit, veggies, other feeders like the waxworms and will eat moss. I have kept crickets in my setups and in the larger setups promote breeding so they will add to the authentic wild ecosystem I'm trying to create.
Most of the babies will die and won't be much of a problem.
