Typical signs of tree frogs that are males are calling (obviously), darkened throats (grey, green, yellow, etc.), loose throats, change in colour in the thighs or somewhere on its back legs. Males can also develop rough nuptial pads in tree frogs but I cannot be certain because I've never had a barking tree frog. If you have a large specimen then it's usually a female.
