Is this a good option? Or is it too toxic for future inhabitants? The tank used to hold a turtle and now will hold toads.
I also read about something called Zoo Med Wipe Out, but that has its own chemicals.
How else does one sterilize a tank?
A 10 percent bleach solution is generally the failsafe for disinfecting. However make sure that after you use it you rinse and rinse and rinse. Then rinse again. Bleach is effective on a broad spectrum of microbes but obviously needs to be diluted. I’ve used bleach as a disinfectant for years but I always use caution with amphibian terrariums. Sometimes it’s imposible to thoroughly disinfect an enclosure (example: aquariums with siliconed sides can be tough) and you’re better off starting fresh with a new one. There are also a host of veterinary disinfectants available but again use caution and common sense.
