So, my poor Ornate Pacman Frog has been impacted for quite a while. I kept trying warm honey baths every day and it never worked. I just did one today and after I came back to check on him, his legs were outstretched. He wasn't have a seizure, they were just outstretched. I tried moving his legs and hands but he did not react or move them. He is very well alive and is visibly breathing but is not moving at all. What else can I try to get rid of the impaction and save him in general?
Oh and he is fed crickets, dusted every other feeding. He got the impaction from eating in his cage and eating the coconut fiber.
It sounds like he may have accidentally swallowed a mouthful of substrate when he went for a cricket. What kind of substrate do you use?
coco fiber
OH and I should've said he's been impacted for about 2 1/2 weeks
So could the food have rotted and caused toxic levels to rise in his body?
If so what can I do?
I really do need help so any response would be helpful.
A mouthful of substrate will not cause an impaction without other factors playing into the situation. Does his tank reach the low 80s during the day? How long has it been since he last pooped? His legs might be stretched back because he's so full of waste, it's pressing on some nerves (I've seen it happen to a severely constipated dog, may not apply to frogs).
You need to take him to a vet. He sounds completely obstructed, so a vet will likely have to manually remove whatever is blocking his digestive tract. I wish this wasn't the case, but it's likely the only choice you will have, so I hope you have a vet or are able to find one.
Yes they have gone low 80s and the humidity was usually high. We have a vet that said he may be able to do it, but he said are best bet would be somewhere really far. We will try to take him to the closer vet, since they do take exotics.
His legs have gone back to normal but he's sluggish. He did let out only very small particles of poop. It seems like the impaction is not as hard and is really soft.
That's really good! If he let's you, can you touch his right side? That's usually where you can see/feel their poop and it might give you a better idea of what you're dealing with.
All I can recommend are the warm honey baths, but I would make a new thread in our Pacman frog forum to see if people have any other advice.
Like I said, it would be best if you posted a new thread in the Pacman Frog subforum here: http://www.frogforum.net/forumdispla...3-Pacman-Frogs
Not everyone checks every forum, so you are losing out on people potentially seeing your problem and helping you. I unfortunately do not know what else to recommend you, so I highly suggest a new thread with all the information you posted here. Others will hopefully be able to advise you better.
I will take that as a note next time. However, sadly he did not make it. At approximately 11 P.M., I came to check on him, and he was at his final breaths. I sat there with him until he passed away. I did try many warm honey baths, but sadly it was too late. RIP Ornate Pacman frog. I still do have a baby albino though.
