Can you cut open a filter cartridge from a HOB filter and add new media?

Can I snip the top open of a filter cartridge, so high that water will not flow into the cartridge from the top, then place new media such as phosguard, chemi pure, or bio balls?

Hi never heard of a filter that makes any substrate inaccessible there will be a clip or pull method in order to separate without knowing your model cannot assist further but this makes interesting reading
