Hello all,
I had a few questions
i went to my local watering hole (river) and collected some field specimens, lol
I was wondering if i could possibly use them. or will it kill my frogs?
heres a few pictures of what i got today...

Now heres the deal, the river is waaay out in the woods and my kids and I have captured many many, skinks, frogs & garter snake out there
the moss grows in massive amounts out there and the river is pretty clean, the water is clear and the beaches are lined with a fine white sand, w/ paper trees that line the banks, and stretch accross,
its one of those places on earth that would make a GREAT postcard,
We've set up camp there many times. its very relaxing..
anyway, i was wondering what kind of moss this was exactly & if i could use it w/out worry of harm to my tree frog,
The common wisdom is not to use moss like this because it can harbor diseases and parasites that could be passed on to your frogs. So I would say no, don't use it. Many wild mosses also require very specific growing conditions and die in the terrarium as a result.

I kind of figured you would say that, & i thought the same things, that why i asked, just to make 100%
where can i find moss like this style that is sterile or free of parasites/diseases????
Tropical mosses are very hard to come by. I use oak leaf ficus for ground cover.
Yeah, someone mentioned a site called blackforest.com
I think its called & it has tons of info for newbs like me..
I've got a list of plant to take to my local nursery, that is going to be one I get, I really like the way it looks...
& from all of the setups I've seen on here I've got a lot of ideas I'm going to attempt with this small tank,
I wish I was taller, lol
I know of people using wild moss with great success, myself included. Just make sure u get all the little creepy crawlers out..... just my .02
