Here are some pictures of my Pixie named Penny. I got him/her in January from a local reptile store (that has since disappeared.) The store owner told me it was about a year old. I had wanted a male, but given the size, age, and faint stripe down the back, I assumed this was a female. I was satisfied because the coloring, especially the orange on the belly and armpits is really nice. I named her Penelope, until one afternoon I heard croaking from my reptile room. I have no other frogs, and nothing else that calls. Now I assume it is a small male. However, with all of these threads with people thinking they are getting giants when they are really getting dwarfs, I am getting concerned that maybe I also have a dwarf, as I feel my frog contains aspects of both species. So what I am saying is, help! I am expecting good things from the collective expertise here. Thanks, all!
This is definitely not a dwarf, but I can't give a 100% answer about the sex of the frog. John will be the best person to ask what the sex of the frog is. If I had to guess I would say male because of the croaking, and because of the head shape.
I am also fairly certain that you have an African Giant and not a Dwarf variety. It can sometimes take a while for the vertical stripe to fade, so I would not use that as a determining factor for sexing. If you heard any sort of sound from it, then it would rule out it being female. Based on your pics-the colouring and size-I am leaning towards male. Most females I have seen have not exceeded 4" long. John would be the best to confirm what we have said. Very nice looking frog!

Thanks, guys! Its always nice to have your thoughts confirmed. Even with the confirmation that he is absolutely male, I will still call him Penny, or some other derivation of Penelope (Loper, Opie, etc). He's grown some since I got him back in January, I just hope he keeps getting bigger. Thanks again!
Ok, I have to ask...why the pic of him dropping a duece?![]()
Well then I have a nomination for pic of the month!
Opie is a cool name. I vote for that one!I have a female African Giant named Obi.
Haha...I thought some would get a kick out of it. How often do you actually see your frog going? I refer to that as a "stress poo." He started going while I was taking pictures of him on my kitchen counter. What you see in the picture is about half of what came out. I didn't know something so large could come out of that body. Thanks for all the positive comments! I think he is pretty photogenic for a bullfrog.
