Thread: Severely injured toad

    Default Severely injured toad

    I found an injured toad in my neighbors yard and his one eye is missing and the area is a mess and his other eye is swollen or infected so much I can’t see his eye. His elbow bone is protruding out of his arm with multiple cuts on his head. What can I do to help or humanly euthanize?

    Get a bottle of alcohol (80 proof).

    Dilute it 8 to 1 with water. (8 parts water, one part alcohol).
    This bath will make the toad go to sleep.

    Once the toad is unresponsive, a bath in the full strength alcohol will kill it.

    I have never had to do this myself.

    Or you can put him in the fridge overnight, then put him in the freezer for a day or so. I have had to do this for toads that are in too much pain for me to treat. Poor little guy! I have a roughed up frog right now (I have posted a thread about him entitled ''Poor Frog!'') But I've never seen one this bad. ;-;

    I've also heard of people adding drops of pure clove oil to baths for euthanasia. The clove oil is supposed to be numbing. Or oragel with painkillers.

    Here's Caudata Culture's perspective on the issue.
