Toad too fat?

I have a female toad that is insanely huge, and I’m wondering if she need to lose weight. I rarely have a frog hat I don’t end up having trouble feeding, so I fed her way too much because of my anxiety over it. Now I’m worried she weighs too much. She doesn’t move really and just hides and eats.

You might find the responses on my post about overfeeding a toad helpful. AAron gave me some good info. Maybe he will respond here, or possibly another knowledgable toad person. It would make sense to me that if you correct her diet and maximize her environment so she is more active that her weight will normalize, but please don't take my word alone, as I am very new to this. It is the winter months so it is expected the toads will be a step slower then normal. I think if you spread out her feeding so like go longer periods of time when you are feeding her. If the toad starts to become noticably thin then you should obviously feed her so she doesn't starve. I think that it will shorten her life if she doesn't get a little thinner as would be expected in other animals. What size tank is the toad in? What are the conditions? Sometimes they get bored with the setup and if you move things around a little bit they will get up to observe what's new in the enclosure. I have some care tips on my new video of my enclosure about feeding and keeping them. You can take ideas from my setup and if you wanted apply them to this toad or any animals.

She's in a 20 gallon long. I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity up, so I'm sure that could be part of it. I'm planning on making her a native vivarium sometime soon.

Try cutting holes in plaxiglass for keeping humidity

I put a bit of plastic wrap over the tank like I used to do for hermit crabs. Its worked with my tree frogs, although not that well. I guess I should add more maybe?

Plastic wrap over the metal mesh top of my tank has worked for me in the past. Why are you trying to raise the humidity though?

She loooks a bit overweight but keep in mind, aslong a you know for sure its a femal, she also could be full of eggs. Female toad tends to get real big once they are full of eggs and if you don't have a male, not much you can do. She will reabsorb all the eggs eventually.

Toad bloat themselves right up when handled too. Defense mechanism. My to tiny toads almost double in size when i handle them. Make themselves look huge! Lol

I used to feed her crickets and superworms but now I'm swithcing her and all my animals over to dubia roaches. I'm trying to figure out a good feeding schedule for her. She is a Fowler's toad.

Ohhhhh! Well dear, Fowler toad tend to be on the inactive side and good eaters let's per say. Lol depending on how big she is, in the picture she looks like a full grown female of arpund 3 to 4 inches, I would feed her 3 to 4 crickets every third day or so. Toads tends to be round arpund the edge. Bony toad are of a major concern. Not so much for the round ones lol

No. Fluffy (that's its name) is large and doesn't have a dark colored throat. But it semmed like it tried to squeak once and made a little noise, but nothing like I've heard from a male toad. It was more like a VERY quite click than a squeak.

If she starts getting lethargic then maybe give a little less food, but keep in mind, a fat toad is a happy toad!
It does look like she is a female, like MariePey said she could be full of eggs. And sometimes a female (very rarely but possible) can make noise.

Fluffy passed away last night. The humidity and substrate weren't nearly as moist as I thought and she was dehydrated. I feel horrible since I could have so easily prevented this, and I loved my fat fluffy baby. I can't believe how bad messed up...

Thanks. I guess I shouldn't be so upset with myself since the first step towards loving others is loving yourself. I think I'm going to adopt a leopard gecko and put it in her tank. Thanks for all the help!
