    Default My ACF won't move

I recently moved my African Clawed Frog to a 10 gallon tank. I installed a new filter- the Aqueon Quietflow AT10. Whenever the filter is off, she swims around constantly. When the filter is on, she sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't move. I have heard differing opinions on the use of filters with ACFs and would appreciate any advice.

I strongly suspect that the source of the problem is that your filter's too powerful for such a small tank. The Aqueon At10 claims a turnover rate 57 gallons an hour. In such a small tank I'd recommend a gentler filter system such as an air-powered foam or box filter.

Bear in mind that filters containing a motorised pump are designed principally for use in fish aquaria. Most fish originate from rivers and streams with strong water currents. Xenopus frogs, on the other hand, originate from bodies of water that are still or very slow-moving. If the frogs are kept in a tank with fairly vigorous water movement at all levels, they're trying to survive in conditions that they're not adapted for. Your frog's most likely so passive when the filter's on because it's sensory system's being overwhelmed.

You could try an external filter slightly more expensive, my 2 don't seem to mind the flow, in fact gizmo likes nothing better than surfing the flow
