I am looking into getting my first amphibious pets (specifically fire belly toads) and I want to know how to keep live plants i the tank long-term. What should I do when I need to clean the tank? Should I simply get a small pot? Any advice is appreciated.

You can choose to put the plants in the enclosure in pots, in which case you would remove them whenever you clean. Or you could make a planted environment with an expanded clay ball drainage layer, a piece of vinyl mesh and some kind of substrate (most people use coco fiber or a vivarium mix called ABG). Then you can plant the plants directly into the environment and you don't have to clean.
