My son and I were looking at getting a toad, a big one. There are some monster Cane Toads on the net, but as I have little ones at home, I wouldn't take the risk of bringing something like that in the house. The next largest toad I saw was the Colorado River Toad/Sonoran Desert Toad. This one also produces a toxin but from what I've read, it's lethal for something the size of a small dog, so I'd feel more comfortable, and I'd be the only one handling it. The question I have: Is there any chance of the toxin/chemicals getting into the owners blood stream without them actually being secreted in large amounts through the poison glands, say just from handling the toad? Aside from the danger of the toxins themselves, I guess I'm a little paranoid about handling something like this, then taking a drug test for work and having some "drug-like" compound show up in the results because I was handling a pet. Anyway, I'd appreciate hearing back from all of you, if you have experience with this sort of thing. Thanks.
