Default Toad almost black in color and not eating

I have two fire belly toads in a standard 10 gallon tank. One is bright green and eating anything i put in, either on the tongs or out of the water does not matter.

However, the other one some days is so dark it is almost black in color and will catch and kill the cricket but then spit it back out. He/she does not make any sounds but "huggs" the brighter one to the point the brighter one will pull itself out of the dark ones grip. The darker one also sleeps alot, should I be worried or is this normal?

Temps are between 75 and 80
Water is clear and has a filter

Thank you for all your help

The only thing I would be worried about is the spitting out of food, is the food bigger than the width of the toads head? It may be too big for him. Take a picture if you can of the coloration, but FBT's can get very dark, esspecially if they are in a dark environment. The "hug" is called amplexus, he is trying to mate with the other toad, nothing to worry about there. It may be wise to seperate them for now.

Has the dark one ever eaten for you?

The sleeping a lot, the spitting out of food, and dark color are all red flags to me. I would take him to the vet.

Yes he has eaten for me. It all started when I dusted the crickets with vitamin powder after that he does not seem to want to eat. I will get smaller crickets tonight when i go to the pet store and see if that helps if not I will take him to the vet.

Thank you all for your help.

He is still active and responds when i come up to the tank, I will take pictures of him tonight when I get home and post.

Last night I did a 25% water change and gave some smaller crickets. He ate 6 and kept them down. Maybe they were just to big. He went after them like a true toad should.

See pictures below (if i can get it to work)
After he/she ate ( can you tell if he is a male by this picture?)

Both of them after they ate (is the bright green one a male or female?)
