Not eating from tongs anymore???
I've noticed within the last week and a half my pyxie is REFUSING to eat from tongs, which I find this VERY odd because since he was a tiny baby I was able to do so. Tonight while he was in his bowl he would NOT move when I bothered with with half a night crawler so I dropped it in his bowl and he devoured it. I can tell he was VERY hungry because he refused to eat last night after a hornworm.....
Now is it bad to feed him in the bowl considering how they urinate/poop in it? any tips to do so? As of now he seems to love to catch his food in the water and ate 4 huge night crawlers and another medium sized horn worm tonight but I'm concerned with him swallowing dirty water....
It seems like I found out this new trick really has helped me.....I don't know if some of you remember how in previous posts I mentioned his lack of appetite lately but it seems like he has gotten scared of tongs for some reason and would not take them from them anymore....
Update on poops: In the last week or so I have also found more "capsule" looking poops rather than the ones that would just dissolve in water. Which is a good thing too!
Any tips or similar cases would be helpful from all of you guys.... I don't know how I would do without all your help all the time. You are all so unconditional and always willing to lend a hand! All for the love of frogs!!!!

Re: Not eating from tongs anymore???
You might have to start changing out the water more often.
Or get a different color pair of tongs.

Re: Not eating from tongs anymore???
Well I change the water around 2-3 times PER day. I have two pairs of tongs, one with the white coated rubber tips and the other its just a regular stainless steel. Both are the long ones.

Changing the water that frequently I wouldn't worry too much about putting its food in the water if it likes to hunt it that way.
And if you're really worried about it just feed after you have change the water so you know the water is clean.
Also I wouldn't use the stainless steel ones because they may injure your frog if they're very aggressive feeders.

Re: Not eating from tongs anymore???
Well as of today I think tongs won't work for him anymore. Apparently he likes to get them from the water so I will just drop them there. I was just concerned about the dirty/soiled water since he uses his bowl as a toilet. I guess I will have to remove him prior feeding times if I need to change the water.

I can tong feed all of my frogs, but they generally prefer to hunt for themselves. If they're really hungry they'll ignore the tongs and bite at anything.

Including the water you mist their cage with. It's hilarious to see them snap at virtually nothing.

Maybe add another water bowl. And feed in the bowl he isn't in.

Re: Not eating from tongs anymore???
This is not unusual behavior. They will go through periods where they want to capture the food themselves. Mine even does this and I have some Pacman Frogs that go through the same phase. Basically he is showing dominance over his provider Lol!

I just lost
lol
He did not want to eat tonight, I don't know if it was because the first piece I gave him was Ca dusted( For sure I can tell he HATES vitamins) and turned him off OR he was just not hungry after eating 4 worms last night. I even put him in the water bowl with a worm in it and jumped out right away lol. So I guess maybe its still full from last night's meal.

dont get to worried. they do that every once in a while. your frog will eat from tongs again. i had it happen to me couple times and so i fed him live crickets and live worms for a few feedings and then tried the tongs again. He nailed it. just give it some time.
