Hello Everyone,

I have experience with planted aquariums and reef tanks. I really would love to get started on a Red Eyed Tree Frog Vivarium. I made a tiny 2.5 Gallon Vivarium a while ago which held some Artisan Isopods. I used small portions of store bought driftwood, moss from Josh's Frogs and some Carib-Sea decorative rocks. I do not have the anticipation of buying the frogs anytime soon. I want to make a full vivarium system to suit their needs before ever purchasing one.

I do have some questions and concerns.

Questions:
Will a 29G to 40G Breeder Aquarium be good for housing these?
If so, how many would be able to fit in this long term?

Concerns:
Will I, as a beginner, be able to successfully take care of these?
Will they become loud at night?

Red Eyes are awesome, you'll have lots of fun building and keeping this viv!

29 to 40 gallons is plenty of space for these frogs. But they will need a substantial amount of height. The golden rule is that the tank should be 24 inches tall at the minimum, preferably a little taller, especially if the substrate layer is thick.

for a tank around 29 gallons, I would stick with two frogs. A tank of about 40 gallons can house 3 or 4 frogs comfortably. Remember that bigger is always better

As for your concerns,

You already have experience with animals, i think you'll be ok. I would recommend that you build the tank and keep it empty for about a month so you can make sure you're able to maintain the proper temps, humidity, etc. practice makes perfect!

Males are the only ones who will call. And they will. Although it depends on the frog and the season. Some males will call all the time and some not at all. It's really a gamble. But they shouldn't be too much of a problem. I think you'll be okay

If you practice keeping up the temp and humidity and are able to find a good source of insects, you should have no problem caring for frogs.

Remember that they may not be out much during the day since they're nocturnal. But being disturbed by the calling only depends on how light a sleeper you are. (Or how sensitive your roomates are.) I have two males in my room and I've learned to sleep through them. It's like having a dog barking in the distance.
