What I would do is place your domes over to one side not directly in the middle, put the light in the dome that's closest to middle and the heat source in the further dome from the middle. this way the light will be distributed through out the tank nice and evenly and with the heat being more to one side it will be cooler on the opposite end creating a thermal gradient. Put your sensor about an inch off the ground under the light and this will be the warm end, so lets say let it go up to about 82f to 83f. The opposite end will read a couple degrees cooler and this is ok and what you want, this way if its to warm under the light for him he can go some were else in the tank that's abit cooler. You will notice every few days he will more then likely move to thermal regulate his body temps.
