Jeez, I am still trying to determine whether my pixie is a young male or female. But one thing I notice about my pixie is that he/she has a good amount of yellow directly on the throat and a lot of yellow on the sides. Would this indicate the frog is male, or can females also have yellow on their throats?
Your idea of a good amount of yellow might be different to mine. Can you take a photo and post it please?

Here are some pics. I tried my best to capture the yellow coloring of the frog.
Looks female to me but it's still a bit young to be certain.

Can you take some shots from the side and directly above? Also look like a female to me from those pictures.
My first two pyxies when young the female had more orange than the male. Good thing I bought both and just not the one with most orange.
I have to say female, but there are no guarantees.

Does look bit more female right now but do see some male signs there too so maybe give it a few more weeks and we'll see how it developes.
Pretty sure it's not the same with every pyxies but remember when I first started keeping pyxies my male had the strong ridges on his back like yours while the female's back was blotchy colored and more smooth looking.
The thing about this frog is that the reptile shop I bought it from had no knowledge of this frog. The owner even told me the females get bigger then the males, so I'm guessing the owner didn't calcium coat and feed the frog as often as it needed to be, so the growth of the frog could have been stunted the first couple of months of its life.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Paul, but I really struggle with sexing these guys. I would trust John-if he is reasonable sure it's female, I would place my bets on it being female. However, I think time is going to be the main factor here. I am sure in several more months, we will have a better idea of the sex. I am always want to know the sex of my frogs and toads as well, so I can understand the frustration.
Can you have a clearer picture of it's throat. Because the first picture you posted it has too much flash to judge. i have two edulis by accident, but I'm pretty sure it's the same way sexing them
I say female, 95% sure.
I'd agree female. The width of the back of the skull from a dorsal view is a great indicator once they get two or three inches. The female's head ceases to widen lke the big bulls.
