My Pacman ingested some bedding and ended up having a fairly large prolapse of his cloaca. He passed the bedding but had over a half an inch of cloaca hanging out of him. I warm bath soaked him three times in sugar water for 20mins each time. It shrunk the prolapse a little bit but not much. I used a lubricated q tip and carefully got it back inside of him. I have never had this happen before. He is now in a quarantine tank on a damp towel and has a water dish. I still see a teeny bit hanging out of his rear... My questions are:
will it it heal on its own?
how does the cloaca stay in place anyhow?
will it reattach itself to the inside of the frog?
do I feed him this week? If not, when?
he has only been on crickets dusted w vitamins and calcium. He is about 3 inches.
I am so sorry nobody saw your thread and could reply. I'm moving your thread in Pacman forum so we can see it, would you please reply with what is the situation right now and how we can help. Thank you
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Sorry to hear about your frog. There is a treatment you can try that may fix the prolapse. You can use either method:
Method 1: place frog in a sterile tank, add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to 1/2 cup of spring water at room temperature and mix well. The frog should remain undisturbed for 2 hours.
Method 2: instead of sugar water, use Pedialite and follow above instructions.
This really works, however in case it doesn't, the frog needs to see a vet ASAP.
