    Default Burrowing

I just got a baby african bullfrog and was wondering if it's normal that it burrows itself and why.

Yes they will borrow for long periods of time sometimes . I would always take mine out weekly at the least to feed him. Its common I've heard for people to leave them burrowed for months.

They like to to burrow kind of like a bear likes to hibernate
They also do something called aestivation which you can google for more info

Yes they are famously known as a burrowing species of frog along with horned frogs. In captivity you don't need to give them a very deep substrate, though, two inches max otherwise you'll hardly see your frog and it might not benefit much from a heat lamp. A hide or fake plants will give it enough security. In the wild temps can be too hot during the day so they might choose to burrow and come out at night, but in captivity we can give them warm, but not excessive temps. If a frog is constantly fully burrowed then temps, humidity or photoperiod is probably innadequet.

They are nocturnal, but also active during the day to bask, feed, mate and guard their tadpoles. They're only active during a short wet season so make the most of the time when above ground.
