I know I'm probably being paranoid, but as you can tell I have an Albino African Clawed Frog. A friend has just give me a new tank, however it comes with a 25 watt light. Currenlty in his old tank, which was his first (which he is still in) doesn't have light. Im wondering if I use this light, will it harm him in any way because he's not used to it, I would only be using the light a few hours at night. As he is my first frog I do love him and I wouldnt want to harm him, i just want the best.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
What type of bulb? Incandescent or fluorescent?
oh, sorryy ... Incandescent
ACFs do best with natural light. If artificial light is used, make sure you follow these procedures:
- Use a low-wattage (25 watt) bulb.
- Continuous 24-hour lighting should not be used.
- A photoperiod of between 12 and 14 hours light, and 12 and 10 hours dark is recommended.
- Where artificial lighting is used, a gradual brightening/dimming period of around 20-30 minutes in the morning/evening should be incorporated.
Personally, I do not use artificial lighting and my frogs have done well. The important thing is to gradually dim or brighten the lights, the idea is to reproduce a natural lighting experience.
