Pacman frog MCD help

About a month and a half ago I took to the forum to ask for help about my Pacman frog. Any information of the post is named Pacman frog eating and leg problems, and can be found in my posts. I just finished with his medicine about a week ago and I havnt been able to get him to eat, but I know that this can be because of stress. He still jasny moved at all, and his deformities are there, but I also know these may stay. I have had a lot of juggling in my life, and all this has been stretching me out along with Nugget. I seem to have a problem were directions confuse me, so please be very specific. I really need some help in what to do with my current situation, any help will mean a lot to me.

Hi jade, ya I remember your first post and so sorry to hear things aren't much better. If he still hasn't eaten you may have to force feed him. To do this you need to take a credit card or something that has a smooth edge and place it in between his lips on the side of the mouth and try to open it enough to get even a little bit of the feeder into his mouth, usually after they got abit in there they will do the rest themselves. there is actually some good youtube videos on this and you may need an extra hand. If you don't want to do this you may need to take him back to the vet and tell them the medicine didn't work 100% and he still doesn't have the energy or will to eat. Or the last option by the sounds of things and I hate to say it is you may have to consider putting him to sleep, I know you didn't want to hear this and honestly I hate being the one to say it. The reason I suggested this is because if hes not moveing and his deformities are that visually noticeable he may not be able to move or its just to uncomfortable for him and its causeing him pain. And you are correct that the deformities will stay, mbd can be helped to a point sometimes to make life liveable but in bad cases like this the damage that has already been done is irreversible. So sorry once again that he doesn't seem to be pulling through for you.

I know what force feeding is, it's just we had to give the medicine that way, and I don't want to over stress him, but I was thinking that he wasn't going to get better. Man, just, this is hard. I'll update in the next couple days.

Sorry I havnt updated, but he hasn't still isn't getting better and won't open his eyes. I just need a straight awnser, is he in pain and should I put him down, and how long does he have left

Perhaps get some blood work done to see if it has improved and x rays to see how far it has progressed. Although, this might not be feasable.

If the animal cannot feed by itself and doesn't move at all then I'm afraid it's best to put it down. In this state, it wouldn't survive in nature and keeping it alive is propably worse than putting it down. However, if it does start moving about and feedig by itself then it's fighting and despite deformities, will be able to live a happy enough life. It might take time. It will tell you what it wants to happen. A frog that wants to stay alive will feed, but stressed frogs won't. The best is to discuss it with an experienced exotic vet.

Adding some UVB such as a 5% bulb for a few hours daily might help (though I'm not aware of any studies to confirm this on pacman frogs) and feeding pink mice every 2 weeks dipped in calcium as a whole food source.

Hello, I'm so sorry to hear he still hasn't gotten any better. I Have been following this from the start and IMO I think yes it may be that time. If the meds and everything hasn't even perked him up abit he just may not have any fight left in him, not being able to even open his eyes is a clear sign IMO that he may just want to go to froggy heaven. If you cant get him to eat a cricket I don't think he will be able to eat a pink mouse. This is just my opinion though from what I have read and I'm by far no vet. I know its hard ( I have been there before) but it may be the best thing for the frog. And please don't let this discourage you from getting another, it could of started at the pet shop and it was just one of those cases were it progressed very fast. Alot of these stores don't put vitamins on there feeders before feeding. And most the time they get them as babies when these vitamins are a crucial part of there diet for proper growth and development.

Cory is spot on. A lot of pet shops do not have the knowledge or interest in making sure they're animals are healthy. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good ones that know and love what they're doing. I had a pacman that developed MBD and had to get put down, but I tried not to let it put me off as I've never had this happen before. I now have a similar frog, being an African bullfrog and it's doing very well as I got young from an excellent supplier.

He still seems to refuse wax worms which were one of the few things he ate a while back. This is all really difficult especially since I live in Florida and the hurricane is fast approaching. I will try to bring him to a vet or something in the next week if he is still around then. Thanks for the support and help.
