Has anyone ever done this? I plan on breeding American toads in the spring. I've already got a good female, and I'm currently on the lookout for a male. I have a 20L aquarium and I plan on switching it over to a 50/50 land/water deal in the spring (I'll change it back after they've bred).
I was told that they must hibernate in order to have the instinct to breed in the spring... is there any truth to that? If so, how would one go about hibernating captive toads?
My hope here is to have a spawn of toadlets that I can release at a local park, and a few I can raise (mostly because captive bred amphibians make better pets for various reasons). I've got a pretty colorful female, and if I can find a male with a cool pattern hopefully the babies will be a cool morph as well.
