Hi guys, one of my whites tree frogs has been very big even before I got them. I feed him on a very controlled diet of only crickets but he doesn't seem to have shifted anything at all.
What's odd to me is that he doesn't look necessarily fat, but he has a 'hood' on him?
Can anyone suggest how to get him into a healthier condition?
I'm bot sure if it's normal or not, because I'm a first-time frog owner, but to me it seems normal. As in some extra skin in case he eats a really big meal. My frog has some extra skin, too, and if he eats two crickets at once (being a little guy) his extra stomach skin makes it easier for him to handle it.

how much do you feed him, how often? White's do have loose skin. Yours only looks slightly overweight.
The extra skin isn't a huge issue, I have seen it more in frogs who have granular substrates, it seems like you may have it too from your pics. I suggest investing in real leaf litter and substrate and giving your frogs a nice size pool to soak in. Frogs can be easily stressed by particles stuck to their skin. This is from my own experience, hope it helps.
I had a real big girl that looked similar to yours, keep doing what your doing by feeding a controlled diet. It'll take time but he will lose the weight. Don't worry he isn't dangerously overweight, just chubby. Good luck![emoji4]

Btw, at that size you've probably got a female!

You always get the odd one! I have a definite male that never croaks...though he is still young. [emoji38]

Looks normal to me- that type of "hood" isn't uncommon tho normally develops later in life.
I also would suggest continuing the diet and keep and eye out that the extra skin doesn't get irritated.
You just have a unique frog!
