I admit it I am a half decent looking geek.

I was thinking of buying my son whom is near 11 months old this new robot in say 4 months time.

Hello Kmac... If your son loves animals, you should better give him a puppy. He will learn compassion, love and care from a real life form more than a robot which has no feelings.

It's pretty cool, yes. It may not be a puppy, but then if your son isn't ready for an animal yet (or just likes electronics) it sounds like a good idea!
