    Default What Frog is this?

    Hello, I found this frog by my pool in my backyard, I think it's a baby frog! I live in Florida.. I really would like to know what frog this is, as I' am new to this state. thank you. =]

    It's a toad, firstly. The likely candidate is Bufo terrestris (Southern Toad), but the other two possibilities are Bufo quercicus (Oak Toad) or Bufo fowleri. There are some proposed taxonomic changes for this genus of toads in the US, which would make these 3 Anaxyrus instead of Bufo.

    I don't believe that it's an Oak toad, which has a distinct line running along the back. Plus, they don't typically get quite that big.

    If you are in South Florida, it could be a young Marine toad (Bufo marinas), aka a Cane toad, which is an invasive species, can get quite large, steal your dog's food, and secret toxins in their glands that can even kill a dog.

    Not to sound heartless, but when I visit relatives in Boca, I typically "euthanize" any large Marine toads I find.

    it looks like the little juvenile toad that JimO showed me, but i dont live that south of florida lol.
