We raised 2 tadpoles (taken from a small local pond) into froglets. They are at the stage now where the tail is just about to fully disappear (one is a few days ahead of the other one). We always intended to return them to the wild when they became frogs. We didn't know what they were when we got them, but they appear to be tree frogs.
My questions are these: obviously the world is a dangerous place and there are no guarantees of long-term survival, however obviously we would like them to have the best chance of survival in the wild. When we return them to the wild, should we:
1. Return them in the morning, afternoon, or at dusk?
2. Should we place them back in the pond where we got them from, or in a tree near the pond?
3. Should we return them to nature right after the tail is gone, or should we feed them for a few days/weeks first and then do so?
4. Any other tips on returning to the wild?
Thanks in advance!![]()
