Sorry about your frog's death.
The patchy skin in the pictures makes me think maybe it was some fungal problem. Or it could have been an infection of the leg like you said.
If you do get a new frog, I'd suggest changing the substrate and making sure to sterilize the tank and the things inside before using it again.

I've had those patches sometimes with treefrogs. They've went brown, whilst retaining some patches of green (their normal coloration) but it's been nothing but probably stress from when I've changed something in the tank or if they've been kept a bit too cool or hot
