From my experience there is no difference in temperment based on gender (but all snakes have their own personality). Ball pythons are a very calm mellow snake that are nocturnal. They are famous for being known as 'pet rocks". Corn snakes are more active than ball pythons and can occassionally be fast at times, but they will calm down if you handle them slowly. Tree pythons are typically not very good beginner snakes unless you know what you are doing.
