Thread: Do frogs yawn?

    Default Do frogs yawn?

So hi, I made an account just to ask this one question. Do pacman frogs yawn? Because I was just walking by my frog's enclosure and glanced over at him and he just opened his mouth really wide like he was an alligator or something. I never saw this kind of behavior before, so I was curious if anyone here knew anything about it.

Oh yeah while I'm at it, does anyone know why they sometimes makes a clicking noise? Sounds like when you click your fingernails together but I couldn't find much info about it.

Hi, the yawning was him probably shedding. For the clicking the only time I have ever hear this with any of my guys is when they feel stressed or annoyed with me because im cleaning or doing something in there terrarium. The other time they do it is if I accidently spray them directly while misting, especially if I get there face.

Hmmm never saw him shedding before so I hadn't considered that. And I figured the clicking was probably because I was annoying him since just like you, he seems to only do it when I'm cleaning or something.

    Cool, thanks for the reply!

My monitor opens his mouth like he is yawning, but he is really telling me it's time to feed him.

Don't know about frogs though, leopard geckos yawn though. It is possible he was having trouble digesting his food and was almost choking. That I have seen frogs do.

Even though it was shortly after eating, I don't think he was choking since the crickets are starting to get pretty small for him.

I can almost guarantee he was shedding, opening the mouth wide is part of the process. DG Kim if you have never seen him next time you catch it you should watch the whole process, its quite the thing watch.

Yeah after I saw him opening his mouth like that I just stared at him for like five minutes without moving, and then I figured I might be stressing him out so I stopped. He goes into pancake mode when I stare for too long.
