    Default VeryVarner is very overwhelmed!

    Hi all,

A friend gave us a "Planet Frog" habitat, complete with two itty bitty frogs. I have kept fish (successfully) for years, but frogs are completely out of my comfort zone! I cannot even tell what type they are. One is about an inch; the other is noticeably smaller. They are gray/brown in color and both have a triangular-shaped spot on their heads. If I submit a photo, can you help me identify them and then guide me as to their care requirements? I think I jumped into the deep end on this!

My first concerns are that the habitat seems rather small (I always understock my aquariums) and that I don't know quite what to feed these little guys. My brother's fire belly toads do well on crickets, but can such small frogs eat crickets?

Thanks in advance! As soon as I can figure out what kind of frogs I have, I can read the articles on here.

A picture would really help us to help you identify them. Until we know for sure what they are, giving specific advice on them will be tough. Being so small, I would recommend wingless fruit flies or pinhead crickets (dusted with calcium powder) to feed them. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy most frogs are to care for, and you will come to enjoy your new additions.

Welcome aboard. Are they semi or fully aquatic?

Also, can you please post your location and country in you profile? It helps us to help you better.

Thanks for the encouragement; when they started jumping all over the place as I was trying to get them into the habitat, it unnerved me a bit. Here are two photos I took. Sorry for the poor quality; best I could do with a reflective, plastic tank.

I am in the Bay Area, California, and more specifically, these frogs came from Los Gatos, CA. A friend had a plethora of these little guys in her pond.

I hope I attached these correctly!

They highly resemble a Gray Tree Frog to me.

Looks like a Pacific chorus frog to me.

I agree with Kurt-Pacific Chorus frog would be my vote. If your could get a straight picture of just the frog (no plants to hide in ), we could confirm that I.D. for you, but I am pretty certain that is what they are. There is a care sheet available for Pacific Chorus frogs full of great pictures and tons of information. These are great little frogs and very easy to care for. They love to eat and are quite active in the evening and at night. If you have a male, he will serenade you with a variety of sounds, especially after a good meal! I have one of these little frogs myself and the only problem I have come across is the fact that I can't get more of them!!

Definately Pacific Chorus Frogs. The black stripe through the eye and the dark inverted triangle on the top of the head are the best identifiers.
