Hello, I have a year and a half old GABF. In October, he got in a strange mood, and proceeded to burrow, and would not even get near his water section. I left him alone for about a week, and then I dug him out because I felt that he surely had to be hungry. When I pulled him out he had a clear film around his entire body, and was rather pissed off. I put him in a tub with some luke warm water for about 2 hours, during this time he had shed the film. It was different than a normal skin shed, and Im convinced it is not skin. I attempted to feed him and he rejected every nightcrawler, superworm etc. Literally turning around making a statement that he was not interested. I check on him all the time and when I put him back inside his enclouser, he burrows right away and produces this same clear film over his body. Im getting worried as he has not eaten in months, and not even moved for that matter. My temps/ humidity are fine. Nothing I do gets a rise out of him. Please help.
Hi
Aestivation is common behaviour for these guys and so it's always put in books and readily available online. Temps should be at leas 78F during the day to 84F and slightly cooler at night but not below the 70s. Humidity can vary but generally 60-80% would be what to go for. If everything is right then you just need to leave it and it will come out when it's ready. Just don't disturb it any further, that's the worst you could do. They can spend probably a year underground before actually starving, as they will slow their metabolism right down.
Would recommend reading this book

Yes, your bullfrog has probably sensed the change of seasons anyways, and decided to aestivate. I second what Jason said, and if you are wanting to breed any, now's probably the time, as after aestivation, they tend to go to watering holes, and breed
