Still a little shook up..
this morning like every other day I was cleaning out my Aftican Bullfrogs water bowl. He lives in a 30gal breeder. About 5months old and just over a pound.
every morning I suction the water out he sits there and I add in new water and call it a day. He usually hangs out while I pour the water in. FYI my frog spends about 90% of his life in his deep pool.
today for some reason he hopped out and hung out in the mud. THANK GOD because when pouring the water in the submeragable heater I had in the water hole cracked open. Smoked. And made me so scared I immediately in plugged it and removed it along with the debris from the event.
I could have killed Weldon! (((
thing is he loves his warm water. LOVES IT.
any ideas to safely heat the water?
there is also a 120watt bulb above the water but with that in place only the water will be very cold to the touch.
any ideas I would greatly appreciate.

Hey You get some submersible water heaters with a plastic sort of coating for turtles. If you could get one of them it would be safer than glass. exo terra have one but its set to 78f but you should get others. Whilst pouring in new water though and before doing any maintenance, it might be best to unplug any heater.

You could make a new set-up with a water area and put an under-glass heater underneath it, so the water gets a warm temperature

This would be a good idea and probably more suitable for heating a smaller water area. A thermostat and care to raise the bottom of tank will be important though.

I always think about this. would you recommend under the water area or under the glass of the tank under the water area?
So under the plastic (tupperware) water hole or under straight glass (under water, and under tank. so 1 pad under both)

I know you're not asking me but I thought I'd give you a quick answer and opinion and mine would be either would be fine, though under the tub might be better and be less chance of cracking the glass but only with tub water dishes, not ceramic. The heat might not heat the water much but the frog will still get heated from the bottom glass and tub. Just be sure to put it on a thermostat or you could burn the frog or possibly melt the tub. Tape the probe under the tank on top of the heat mat and then use a digital thermometer that can go into water on top of the heat mat and adjust the temp on the tuermostat to maintain the correct temperature you're trying to achieve

If you are going to use a UTH in a water area I would place it as mentioned under the tank to the glass and then put the tub over that spot. If its just straight glass and the UTH I think when doing water changes if that water isn't remotely close to the same temp and is colder pouring right over the matt and glass my cause a crack. But I would agree with a thermostat and if its done properly it should work.

You can also put a heat lamp over the water dish, it will help with humidity too.

As a baby he loved super worms and still does but I don't feed them as much. The largest dubias I can find, night crawlers but they can't have any dirt on them at all he is so picky and hoppers every month or so and also raw chicken breast every now and then. He will eat 35-50 supers in maybe 10 mins and dubias he eats about 20 every feeding

name brand heater is Installed and updated the tank with a lot more foliage!
